CANCER
I treat all types of cancers through all the stages of the illness and treatment into recovery, but there is special mention of breast cancer and leukaemias.

Breast Cancer
Although there is a high prevalence of depression in all cancer patients, a breast cancer patient can be more at risk of developing mood disorders such as depression, anxiety and specific sexual disfunctions due to premature-menopausal, postmenopausal or oestrogen deficiency.
With younger woman, the physical symptoms of premature menopause are likely to be more severe compared to older women who experience age related physiological changes due to low oestrogen.
Younger woman, because of sudden and unexpected menopause, has less time to adapt to the physical and psychological changes which can be linked to lower sexual desire and mood changes. There is also the potential loss of fertility that must be talked and worked through.
Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML)
Leukaemia patients are at risk of experiencing a high symptom burden due to the disease and its treatment which can include long periods of hospitalization causing severe mood changes and challenges. Whether you're newly diagnosed or in remission, psychotherapy can offer continued support at every stage of the leukaemia journey.
Leukaemia treatment often involves chemotherapy, targeted therapies, or bone marrow transplants that means isolation in hospital taking you away from your environment and love ones which can take a toll on both the body and mind. Fatigue, brain fog, and changes in appearance or physical ability can impact self-esteem and mental health. Uncertainty about treatment outcomes and the future can lead to stress and emotional exhaustion. Psychotherapy provides practical coping strategies to help you manage anxiety, stay mentally strong, and maintain hope even in difficult moments.
